About 25 people marched to the West Linn Police Department on Sunday afternoon to demand that the state fire former Lt. Michael Stradley for his role in the arrest of Michael Fesser.
He was placed on paid leave in February after the various investigations began. He also later warned his Portland colleagues that Fesser was potentially dangerous in November when an indictment was obtained.
Stradley went to work for West Linn police after retiring from Portland police, where he had previously worked as a gang enforcement officer. Stradley acknowledged that he knew only that Fesser had been seen with gang members two decades earlier and had attended trials of known gang members. Stradley also admitted that he knew of no threats that Fesser had made that would make him dangerous. Benson had complained to the police chief that Fesser was making trouble at the towing company by alleging he faced a racially hostile work environment.

Stradley left West Linn police in for the state public safety department, which trains and certifies police, corrections officers and emergency dispatchers.
The state agency also asked the Oregon Department of Justice to do an employment investigation into Stradley. The state Justice Department inquiry is still pending, according to Linsay Hale, of the state public safety department. During the rally, Kathy Selvaggio, a founder of the West Linn Community for Police Reform, urged the state public safety department to also revoke the police certifications of fired West Linn Sgt.
Reeves led the investigation into Fesser. The state department last year initiated investigations into whether Timeus and Reeves should lose their police certifications. No action has been taken. Stradley and his lawyer Sean Riddell both declined comment Sunday.
